City Mall Crafts ‘City Tour’ in Record Time: A Spontaneous Synth-Pop Gem

City Mall unleashed their new single ‘City Tour’ on May 10, 2025, through a killer collab between Sound Department and Cavaca Records. This drop marks the fifth installment of the Patterns project, a series championing artists who stretch musical boundaries with bold sonic experiments. The São Paulo trio—Mariana Stein on vocals, plus Pedro Spadoni and Matheus Del Claro handling production—first turned heads with their debut EP Lobby Songs, released last November via Cavaca Records. Their sound fuses Synth-Pop grooves, Jazz-infused harmonies, and retro vibes echoing Japanese City Pop and ’80s bops, turning mundane spaces like elevators and lobbies into cinematic soundscapes with a sly, ironic edge.

‘City Tour’ locks into that fleeting moment when everything clicks—a subtle shift that rewires how you see the world. Drawing from a downtown São Paulo stroll alongside Mariana Stein (now based in Curitiba), the track paints a vivid urban tapestry, with lyrics nodding to Aldous Huxley and semiotics. Think shimmering synths layered over city-inspired visuals, like the wavy lines of the Copan building’s skyline. Recorded at Trampolim Studio, it’s also the band’s first stab at guitar, capped with a slick solo from Matheus Del Claro, showcasing their knack for spinning everyday vibes into something fresh and experimental.

Matheus Del Claro reflects on the whirlwind process: “We got the invite unexpectedly from Sound Department and had just a month to deliver, so it was a bit of a rush. It was our first track with a deadline.” Pedro Spadoni chimes in, “We put together a demo, and when we got there they said ‘it’s already done’. So we decided to just have fun.” They’re pumped to see how fans vibe with ‘City Tour’, a track that veers from Lobby Songs’ playbook. Paired with a live session filmed at Trampolim Studio, this release doubles down on the project’s immersive audiovisual punch, making it a must-hear for anyone hooked on innovative beats.
