We are only six months into 2020 and it is proving to be one of the most disruptive, transformative years of many people’s lifetime. Colombian-Canadian artist Tei Shi met the year with a fresh perspective as she re-emerged into the music landscape with newfound independence and reinvigorated drive for authentic creative expression. Eerily, her first release of the year, Die 4 Ur Love, somewhat foreshadowed the feeling of isolation while also providing a bit of relief with its upbeat and playful vibe. The song received praise from Billboard, Stereogum, Pop Justice, The Line Of Best Fit, and more; while also grabbing playlists across Amazon, Apple Music, Spotify, and TIDAL.
Having hit a high note with her first track of 2020, Tei Shi continues to impress with her latest offering ‘Goodbye’.The song is the second off her upcoming Die 4 Ur Love EP due out July 17th and continues showcasing her artistic evolution and dynamic songwriting. Sonically the track stays true to the 80’s-influenced alternative-pop sound Tei Shi has become celebrated for, while propelling her further into the mainstream arena.
Driven by a hypnotic synth arrangement that pulsates as her gentle vocals cascade effortlessly over the retro-futuristic production, the song is Tei Shi’s proclamation of letting go of what is no longer serving her. She shares, ’Goodbye’ is really just a farewell song. It’s me waving goodbye to some different relationships that ended throughout the last couple of years. It’s not about one single person, but I’m singing to a few different people – from business related to personal. Obviously, you can tell how I feel about it listening to the song… it’s kind of a fuck you. I wrote it at the start of a writing trip on a Texas ranch, and it really just felt like something I had to get out of my system while I continued writing the EP. It was an overdue song for me, I had to say the goodbyes in order to start this new phase.
