The Silent Room, the solo project of UK composer Tim Oliver, released his debut EP, Fluorescent, on October 18, 2024, via his Meddle imprint. This follows his debut single ‘You’ll Never Know’, which premiered on CLASH. Fluorescent features collaborations with Jess Greenfield, Owen Parker, Sam Wilcock, and Iain Hornal. Before launching this project, Oliver toured as a keyboardist with artists like Neneh Cherry and Boy George, performing at major festivals including Glastonbury, and appeared with Lady Gaga on BBC’s Friday Night with Jonathan Ross. As a TV composer, he scored the BBC series Jungle Atlantis and episodes of Horizon. Influenced by Pink Floyd, The 1975, and Peter Gabriel, The Silent Room’s sound combines dreamlike synthscapes reminiscent of M83, TOTO, and Cannons.
Fluorescent is a mesmerising debut from The Silent Room, a dreamy collection that captivates from start to finish. The ethereal, floating dream-pop of the title track flows seamlessly into the irresistibly vibrant dance anthem ‘Veins’, each song drenched in the lush nostalgia of 80s dance music. Meticulously crafted synthscapes shimmer and glide, while reverb-drenched guitars and thunderous drum machines create an intoxicating rhythm. Amidst this sonic tapestry, The Silent Room’s soulful vocals weave in and out, drawing listeners into a hypnotic embrace.
The Silent Room revealed: “This EP is a bit of a retrospective for me, musically as well as personally. I love being in the world it lives in. I’ve always been drawn to records that flow well from start to finish and reward repeated listens, so I hope Fluorescent does the same for you.”
