PREMIERE: The Peripheries share a dizzying darkwave track ‘Murmansk’

The Peripheries, a six-piece band from northern Italy, are gearing up to unveil their debut EP, A New Oblivion, headlined by the dark and evocative lead single, ‘Murmansk’, which will be out on October 18th, 2024.

Formed in 2023, The Peripheries consist of Claudio ‘Udo’ Bianconi (bass), John Johnson (guitar, synths, backing vocals), Sabina ‘Morgana’ Morgagni (beats), Carlo ‘Wiz’ Rossi (lead vocals), Flaminia ‘Flame’ Samperi (synths), and Giorgia ‘Z03’ Righini (backing vocals). They blend indie, punk, alternative rock, and darkwave into a genre-defying sound that feels dystopian and atmospheric. John Johnson, a former member of the Oxford band Cody, drives their music with his songwriting experience, while other members contribute dynamic backgrounds in music and art. Their influences range from Clan of Xymox to contemporary acts like Molchat Doma, creating a fresh take on 1980s alternative vibes while pushing the boundaries of experimental darkwave.

‘Murmansk’ captures The Peripheries’ sound—where darkwave meets 80s-inspired new wave, infused with synths, drum machines along with ominous guitar riffs. This brooding track reflects Carlo’s vision of a post-apocalyptic wasteland, merging a hypnotic bassline with haunting melodies. The minimalist yet expansive production builds tension, drawing listeners into its unsettling yet captivating atmosphere, culminating in a climactic cascade of analog rhythms and synths.

Described as “when you are walking towards oblivion, sometimes it is easier to dance”; the band make their formidable presence and energy known through the reverence of ‘Murmansk’.
