Arriving off the back of his highly-praised new album ‘Flowing Fades’, Manchester-based musician Saccades (the solo project of The KVB’s Nicholas Wood) is now sharing a new remix of the album’s title-track by Nottingham DJ and producer Modri (Skint Records / BMG). Originally trading in an escapist psychedelic pop sound, the Modri remix turns ‘Flowing Fades’ into something blissfully euphoric and dance floor ready. On this remix, it’s 1989, the linens are on, Italo Disco is kicking off and we’re all supping tequila sunrises in Miami, stream it here . Next month, Saccades will set off on a UK mini-tour in support of the ‘Flowing Fades’ LP, which was released in April on Fuzz Club Records.
Wood says of the ‘Flowing Fades’ remix: “Modri’s remix totally blew me away when I first heard it, the pounding drums and fizzing synths have transformed it into a club-ready banger!” Modri, real name Charlie Burley, adds: “I had such a blast working on this remix. I wanted to move away from the dreaminess of the original and turn it into something a bit more twisted. I was really drawn to the chorus vocal, so I started working an Italo inspired beat around that and then everything fell into place really quickly!”
Nicholas Wood is best known for making up one half of the post-punk/coldwave duo The KVB with his wife Kat Day. Signed to Geoff Barrow of Portishead and Beak’s Invada Records, over the last ten years the critically-acclaimed duo have picked up a loyal international fanbase and toured pretty much non-stop around Europe, North and Latin America, Asia and South Africa. His second solo album under the Saccades moniker was released April 9th via Fuzz Club Records and trades The KVB’s minimal walls-of-sound for a world of blissed-out synths, languid carefree guitars, dreamy vocals and influences that range from J.G. Ballard and Serge Gainsbourg to 80s dream pop and yacht-rock.
“I began to properly work on ‘Flowing Fades’ after returning from The KVB’s North American Tour in late 2019, my head filled with new inspiration for this project and a clear idea on how this album should sound”, Wood recalls: “I wanted to create something soothing and immersive. Music for escapism, which can be listened to at sunrise or sunset. Even though it’s lighter and mellower than my usual output, I feel like there are strong hints of melancholia in there too, reflecting the world in which it was created.” With live music starting to return again, Wood has now announced his very first set of live shows with the Saccades project: a ‘Flowing Fades’ UK mini-tour kicking off on August 24th with stops in Manchester, Bristol, Leeds and London.
